Lower Avenue

You'll find Lower Avenue just outside Brewood, a proper woodland walk that feels miles away from anywhere despite being right on Staffordshire's doorstep. It's a forest track rather than a manicured park - the kind of place where you crunch through leaf litter and spot the odd fallen branch that's been there since autumn. The canopy's thick enough that even on a grey day it feels atmospheric, and in spring the whole thing comes alive with bluebells and fresh growth.

Walking here takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how slowly you're moving and whether you duck down every side path. It's gentle terrain, nothing steep, so families with younger kids won't struggle though buggies would be a nightmare on the muddier stretches. The real appeal is getting some proper woodland air without fighting crowds - this isn't Instagram-famous, which is precisely why it works.

If you're staying at Oakland Holiday Park just down the road, Lower Avenue makes an easy morning or late afternoon excursion. It's the sort of place you'd combine with a visit to Brewood itself rather than make a solo trip, but paired with the other parks in the area - Pillaton Hall Farm and High Onn - it fills a natural gap when you want fresh air that's quick to access. No facilities that I could find, so bring water. Free to wander, no admission charge, and honestly worth twenty minutes of your time if you're in the area.
