Manorowen Wood

The woodland around Manorowen, just inland from Fishguard, offers proper walking country without the crowds you'd hit at some of Pembrokeshire's more famous spots. Mature trees, decent paths, and enough space to actually hear birdsong - it's the sort of place where you can burn an hour or two without needing a plan.

What you get here is straightforward: a decent stretch of accessible woodland with enough variety in the terrain to keep walkers engaged. There's no visitor centre, no tea shop, no facilities to speak of, which is either brilliant or annoying depending on your mood. The paths wind through mixed woodland, and it's the kind of walk where you might spot woodland birds or spot a deer if you're lucky and quiet.

For families with young kids, it's manageable - close enough to Fishguard for a morning outing, and the paths aren't too technical. Serious hikers won't be challenged, but it sits nicely as part of a broader day exploring the area. Walkers staying at Fishguard Bay Resort or The Hide Pembrokeshire Camping & Glamping (both within three miles) could easily make this their morning walk before heading down to the coast or tackling the Pembrokeshire Coast Path elsewhere.

Go when the light's softer - early morning or late afternoon - and you'll actually feel like you've found something. Midday summer weekends can bring a few people through, but nothing like the pressure at the cliff-top honeypots. Free access, no time limit, just bring proper boots and go.
