Meall Mar nan Eag

The walk up Meall Mar nan Eag rewards you with proper Highland views across Loch Lomond and the surrounding peaks. It's a straightforward hill rather than a technical climb - the kind of outing that works brilliantly if you're based at Beinglas Campsite just over a mile away and fancy a morning's fresh air without overcommitting yourself.

From Arrochar, the path climbs steadily but nothing mad. You're looking at around two to three hours up and down depending on your pace. The summit itself is modest in height but the real draw is the vantage point - you can see right down the loch and across to Ben Arthur. On a clear day it's genuinely lovely; on a grey one, you'll still get that moody Scottish mountain atmosphere that makes the walk worthwhile.

This is ideal for walkers staying at either Beinglas or the slightly further Loch Lomond Holiday Park (about six miles out). Families with reasonably confident hillwalkers will manage it fine. It's not the sort of peak that dominates your whole day, which means you can fit it around other activities - a swim in the loch, exploring Arrochar village, or simply sitting about the campsite.

There's no marked path information or entrance fees to worry about. Just turn up, start walking from the village, and follow the hill. The best time is obviously when the weather looks settled, though Argyll being Argyll, you'll take what you can get. It's a solid half-day outing that justifies the drive north.
