Sithean a` Chatha

The walk up Sithean a' Chatha is short, sharp, and properly rewarding. You're looking at roughly 45 minutes to the summit from Arrochar, gaining about 700 metres in what feels like a near-vertical scramble through bracken and loose stone. The views across Loch Long down to the Firth of Clyde are genuinely excellent - on a clear day you'll see the Clyde estuary stretching away to the southwest, and the Arrochar Alps surrounding you create one of those rare Scottish moments where you feel genuinely small.

It's not a walk for the leisurely. Families with young children will struggle unless the kids are mountain-goat types, and it's muddy after rain. The path is steep enough that you'll feel it in your thighs on the way down. But for hillwalkers looking for something quick without the full commitment of climbing Ben Vorlich or The Cobbler nearby, this one delivers. The summit itself is bare and windswept - there's a cairn and not much else, but that's part of the appeal. You're not paying for facilities here; you're paying with your legs.

Both Beinglas Campsite and Loch Lomond Holiday Park sit within striking distance, making this a logical add-on if you're basing yourself in the area for a week. Allow two to three hours return including a breather at the top. Go early if you want the sun on the water.
