Monadh Tighe Na Laraich

The walk up Monadh Tighe Na Laraich from Arrochar is more rewarding than its modest height might suggest. This peak overlooks the head of Loch Long with proper views across to Ben Vorlich and the Arrochar Alps - the kind of scenery that makes you understand why people come back to this corner of Argyll again and again.

It's a straightforward fell walk rather than a technical climb, taking around two to three hours depending on your fitness and how many times you stop to look around. The path is well-trodden but doesn't feel overcrowded, especially if you avoid peak season weekends. On a clear day the panorama stretches south towards the Clyde estuary, which is worth the slog alone.

Families with older kids will manage it fine - nothing exposed or dangerous, just a steady grind uphill and back. Younger children might find it heavy going. Walkers heading to the nearby holiday parks at Forest Holidays Ardgartan or Loch Lomond Holiday Park would do well to make this a day trip. It pairs nicely with a morning or afternoon around the loch itself.

Access is free - just park in Arrochar and head for the ridge. Go early if the weather's settled, as cloud rolls in fast here and when it does, you lose everything. The peak itself is unremarkable - a cairn and a fine drop of view - but the journey up is the thing. Real value for a few hours on the west side of Loch Lomond.
