Moors Wood

Walk into Moors Wood and you're immediately under proper canopy - the kind of dense woodland that makes you feel miles from anywhere, even though Hereford's just down the road. It's a straightforward forest walk through mixed trees, the sort of place locals use to clear their heads on a wet Tuesday afternoon.

What you get here is honest woodland rambling. Paths wind through the trees, mud underfoot when it's wet (which in Herefordshire, it often is), and the occasional clearing where light breaks through. There's nothing dramatic or engineered about it - no visitor centre, no themed trails, just trees doing what trees do. Most people spend an hour or so wandering round, maybe a bit longer if you're the type who stops to identify birds or just sit on a fallen log.

It works best for walkers who want something close to Hereford without needing it to be a destination in itself. Families with young kids might find it a touch dull after thirty minutes unless they're into sticks and puddles. If you're staying at Byecross Farm Campsite or Preston Campsite - both barely over a mile away - it's an excellent spot for a quick morning walk before breakfast or to burn off energy at dusk.

No charges that I'm aware of, free access whenever you fancy it. Go when the ground isn't waterlogged if you value dry boots, though that does rather limit your options in this part of the world. Pair it with a proper walk elsewhere in the area if you're making a day of it - this is more a morning slot than a main event.
