Standing at 437 metres, this windswept summit near Newtown offers proper Derbyshire moorland views without the tourist crowds. The walk up from the nearest approach involves crossing rough grassland and navigating some boggy patches - waterproof boots are essential.

Walkers who appreciate wild, unmanicured countryside will love the sense of isolation here. Families with young children might struggle with the terrain, which can be challenging underfoot. The summit itself is marked by a modest cairn, and on clear days you can see across to the higher peaks of the Peak District proper.

Expect to spend a couple of hours for the round trip, depending on your starting point and fitness level. There's no formal path to speak of, so decent map-reading skills are handy. The exposed nature means weather can change quickly - I've been caught out by sudden squalls more than once up here.

Just don't expect facilities or signage. This is proper fell walking territory where you're very much on your own.
