Otby Top

The Lincolnshire Wolds aren't exactly alpine territory, but Otby Top delivers something proper satisfying all the same. It's the highest point in the county at 423 metres, which means you're standing roughly 500 feet above the surrounding farmland - enough to genuinely see for miles when the weather's kind. There's no dramatic peak or viewing platform, mind you. You're just on a bit of high ground with Wolds countryside rolling away in all directions, and that's rather the point.

Most people reach it on foot from Market Rasen, about eight miles east, using footpaths that thread through the rolling hills rather than making a beeline for the summit. It's decent walking country, genuinely, with the sort of undulating terrain that keeps your legs engaged without being punishing. Walkers and keen ramblers will find themselves in their element here, especially those training for bigger things - the sustained ups and downs condition you properly. Families might find it a bit of a slog unless the kids are already into country walks; there's no real focal point once you're there to reward the effort.

The Wolds themselves are free to roam, and there's no entrance fee. Allow a good three to four hours for a round trip from Market Rasen depending on your fitness and how many times you stop to take in the views. Visit on a clearer day - mist here means you're staring at nothing much at all.

If you're camping at any of the nearby parks - Into the Wild Glamping, Lindsey Trail Touring Park, or Station Farm just outside Market Rasen - this works as a half-day walk rather than a destination in itself. Pair it with other Wolds footpaths to make a proper day of it.
