Ward's Bottom Plantation

Ward's Bottom Plantation is a proper woodland walk just outside Market Rasen, the sort of place locals know about but tourists often miss. The forest is dense and quiet - tall trees blocking out the sky, with paths that wind through the undergrowth and open into small clearings where light suddenly floods in. You're walking through genuine Lincolnshire countryside here, not manicured parkland.

It's best for anyone who enjoys a straightforward forest walk without crowds or visitor centres. Dog walkers love it, and if you've got restless kids who need to run around and climb things, they'll find plenty to occupy themselves for an hour or so. The terrain is fairly easy, nothing that requires proper hiking boots, though it can get muddy after rain.

I'd allow 90 minutes to really enjoy it without rushing. There's no entrance fee that I could find, and no facilities to speak of - bring water if you're planning a longer ramble. The nearest proper facilities are back in Market Rasen itself, a market town with shops and pubs.

If you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Into the Wild Glamping or Lindsey Trail Touring Park are both within a few miles - this is a decent morning activity to break up your holiday without involving the car. It won't blow your mind, but it's what you'd expect from a woodland walk in the Wolds: quiet, green, and authentic to the region.
