Packetstone Hill

Standing at 477 metres, this grassy summit offers one of the more accessible climbs in the Long Mynd area without the crowds that swarm nearby hills. The walk up from Church Stretton takes about an hour and a half through bracken and heather, with the path well-defined but steep enough to get your heart pumping.

From the top, you'll get proper views across the Stretton valley and towards the Stiperstones ridge. It's not the most dramatic peak in Shropshire - that honour goes to others - but there's something satisfying about having a summit largely to yourself. Families with older children will manage it fine, though toddlers might struggle with the distance.

The hill sits between the more famous Caer Caradoc and the Long Mynd proper, making it a decent warm-up climb if you're staying at one of the nearby sites like Mountain Edge Shropshire or Small Batch Camp Site. Early morning visits are best when the light catches the valley mist.

Expect to spend half a day including the walk there and back. Walkers looking for something more challenging might find it a bit tame, but for a gentle introduction to Shropshire hill walking, it does the job well enough.
