It's the kind of place that rewards patience. You won't see masses of action, but on a quiet morning you'll spot redshank, avocet, and if you're lucky, spoonbill. The shallow water means birds work close to shore. Bring binoculars though - a spotting scope is even better if you can manage it.

Families with young children might find it a bit dull after thirty minutes unless they're genuinely keen on birds. Serious birdwatchers and photographers will happily spend half a day here, especially in spring and autumn migration. The viewing platform gives decent sight lines across the water.

It's free and accessible year-round, though winter floods can occasionally close certain paths. Go early in the morning for the best light and fewest crowds.
