Penmon Point Lighthouse view

The lighthouse at Penmon Point commands the northeastern tip of Anglesey like a proper sentinel, and the walk out there is one of those surprising payoffs that catches people off guard. You're looking across the Menai Strait towards Snowdonia, which on a clear day is absolutely worth stopping for - the mountains rise up in the distance like they've been painted on. The actual lighthouse sits on the rocks at the end of a coastal path that takes about forty minutes from the car park near Beaumaris, and there's a medieval church and some old fortifications to poke around on the way.

It's free to walk out here, and honest to God, most people don't bother. That makes it even better. Walkers love this stretch because the path is straightforward, not too muddy, and the views keep changing as you head further out. Families with older kids manage it fine - younger ones might find forty minutes a bit long for legs that size. Go early morning when the light's right and the crowds are nonexistent.

The area works well as part of a wider Anglesey loop. Beaumaris itself is just down the road, proper charming with the castle and the seafront pubs. If you're staying at Plas Yn Llangoed - which is excellent, by the way - Penmon's practically on your doorstep. Combine it with the Beaumaris coastal walk and you've got a solid morning sorted. The lighthouse view alone justifies the detour, especially if you're after something that feels less trampled than the usual North Wales spots.
