Pickle Wood

Ancient oak and ash trees form a proper canopy here, with well-worn paths winding through this small but satisfying woodland just outside Haverfordwest. The wood gets its curious name from the pickle barrels once stored here by local merchants - though you'd never guess that walking the mossy trails today.

Families will find it manageable for little legs, with the main circular route taking about 45 minutes at a gentle pace. Dog walkers love it too, as there's enough space for proper exploration without the crowds you get at Pembrokeshire's more famous coastal spots.
