Piper's Coppice

You'll need proper walking shoes for this one. Piper's Coppice is a proper woodland walk tucked away near Coalbrookdale, all mature trees and forest floor paths that get genuinely muddy after rain. It's the sort of place where you can actually hear yourself think - no blaring speakers or gift shops, just birdsong and the occasional jogger. The trees here are old and thick, creating this green tunnel effect that's rather lovely even on a grey day.

It's ideal for walkers who want something straightforward without major elevation gains, though it's also fine for families with kids who can manage uneven ground. Don't expect dramatic views or a destination cafe - bring your own refreshment. Allow an hour to ninety minutes depending on how lost you want to get in the woods. The nearest proper town is Coalbrookdale, famous for its ironworks heritage, so you could easily combine this with exploring that part of Shropshire's industrial past.

If you're staying at Ted's Farm Caravan and Camping Site just five and a half miles away, this is a solid morning or afternoon walk. It won't blow your mind, but it's reliable woodland. The sort of place you remember fondly rather than instantly. Free access, open year-round, though winter can be properly boggy.
