Pitmilly Law

The walk up Pitmilly Law takes about forty minutes from the car park, and the reward is a proper commanding view across the East Neuk of Fife. It's not dramatic - you're only climbing to 207 metres - but the surrounding forest makes it feel more substantial than the height suggests. The path winds through dense woodland that's genuinely pleasant even when visibility at the top gets obscured by cloud, which happens often enough in this corner of Scotland.

Walkers will find this straightforward enough. There's nothing technical, though it gets muddy after rain and the final push to the trig point can feel steeper than it actually is. Families with primary-school kids will manage fine in decent conditions; the round trip leaves time for chips in Anstruther afterwards, which is only fifteen minutes away by car. Anyone expecting dramatic Highlands scenery will be disappointed - this is gentle, rolling East Neuk landscape, not wild moorland. That said, on a clear day you genuinely can see south across to the Lothian coastline, which makes the climb worthwhile.

If you're based at one of the nearby holiday parks - Off the Track or Sauchope Links are closest - this works as a morning circuit before heading to the beaches at Crail or Anstruther proper. It's the sort of walk that justifies a caravan holiday in Fife without requiring a major expedition. Autumn's best, when the forest floor colours up and the footfall dies down.
