More affordable thrills await at West Quarry Braes Nature Reserve, where the old quarry workings have been reclaimed by wildlife.

Anstruther sits roughly 45 minutes from Edinburgh and half an hour from St Andrews - close enough for day trips but far enough to feel properly coastal. The surrounding countryside rolls gently between fishing villages, dotted with forests like Pitmilly Law and Laverlock Law that provide decent walking when the sea breeze gets too sharp.

Staying at one of the nearby holiday parks makes perfect sense. You're within easy reach of the coast path, the Secret Bunker, and those famous fish suppers, while having countryside walks right on your doorstep. Plus you can actually park without the harbour front parking wars that plague day visitors during summer weekends.
