Priestfold

The woodland at Priestfold feels like someone's secret, the sort of place locals know about but don't advertise. It's a proper forest walk just outside Carlisle, with decent paths threading through mature trees and enough space to actually escape the sound of traffic.

You're looking at a fairly straightforward woodland experience - nothing fancy, no visitor centre or cafe to speak of. The trees do their job: dappled light, birdsong, and enough cover that even on a drizzly day (and this is Cumbria, so that's likely) you won't get soaked through immediately. The paths are manageable for families with decent shoes, though it's not a pushchair-friendly outing. It's the sort of place that works brilliantly as a leg-stretcher if you're staying at Pasturewood Holidays, just a few miles away - those glamping pods with hot tubs would make an excellent base for getting out into the forest.
