Rhiw-Fawr

The walk up Rhiw-Fawr isn't a slog - it's a proper leg-stretcher from Llanfyllin that rewards you with views across Mid Wales that justify the climb. You're looking at moorland walks rather than rock scrambling, so it's accessible to anyone with decent boots and a bit of fitness.

The summit itself is straightforward. No drama, no false peaks trying to trick you - just genuine countryside pushing back in all directions. On a clear day the visibility is excellent, and you can see right across the Powys landscape. On an overcast day? Bit of a mixed bag, but the walk remains pleasant regardless.

This works perfectly for walkers staying at any of the glamping spots within a few miles - Cae Nant is barely three miles away, Camp Plas closer to four. The route is accessible year-round, though autumn and spring tend to offer the best conditions. Allow three to four hours for the full outing, depending on pace and whether you're the type to linger at the top.

Families with teenagers will manage it fine. Younger kids might find it a bit relentless, though the moorland walking has its own appeal. It's the sort of walk that doesn't demand much else - no entry fees, no facilities to queue for, just you and the hills. That's either exactly what you're after or it isn't.
