Rookery Decoy

Rookery Decoy is a proper woodland walk just outside Brewood, the sort of place locals know about but tourists often miss entirely. It's a small forest area where you can wander among the trees without needing to plan half your day around it. The woodland paths are straightforward enough - nothing technical, just pleasant ambling through the trees where you might spot birds if you're lucky enough and quiet enough.

The appeal here is genuine simplicity. There's no visitor centre, no gift shop, no queues. You turn up, walk the paths, breathe in the forest air, and leave. It takes maybe an hour or so depending on how slowly you move and whether you stop to listen properly. Kids who are into nature and bugs will get more from it than those glued to screens, but even restless youngsters often find something to interest them - a fallen log, interesting fungi, the occasional bird.

Geographically, it sits well if you're staying at Oakland Holiday Park or High Onn Holiday Park, both of which are within easy striking distance. It's the sort of place you'd combine with a proper walk elsewhere or a visit to Brewood itself rather than make a special trip for. Go when the light's good and the ground isn't sodden. Early morning or late afternoon tends to be quieter, which is when you'll actually see wildlife rather than just hear it crashing away from you.
