Sinclair's Field

The walk up to Sinclair's Field rewards you with proper expansive views across the Wharfe Valley - the kind that make you understand why people keep coming back to this corner of West Yorkshire. It's a straightforward climb from Ilkley, nothing technical, but you'll feel it in your legs. The viewpoint itself isn't fussy. There's no visitor centre or gift shop, just open moorland and the view doing the work.

Walkers will get the most from this one. It's the sort of place you'd combine with a broader ramble around Ilkley Moor rather than make a special trip just for the viewpoint. If you're staying at Clarion Lodge Campsite - barely a mile away - then it's absolutely on your doorstep. Families with older kids who can manage a moderate uphill walk will find it satisfying. Younger children might find the journey more interesting than the destination itself.

The actual time you'll spend at the viewpoint? Fifteen minutes to soak it in, longer if you settle down with a flask. Go when the weather's clear - a misty day up here strips away the appeal entirely. Early morning light is lovely, afternoon can get busy with the same hikers who've had the same idea as you.

It works well as part of a park holiday in the area. Fairmead Farm Glamping and St Helena's are both within three miles, making this an easy addition to a morning walk before breakfast or a late afternoon outing. Decent spot, but don't expect isolation.
