Southwater Library

The library sits right in Coalbrookdale, a stone's throw from the valley's industrial heritage sites. It's a proper working library, not some tourist attraction dressed up as one - locals browsing the shelves, kids in the corner, the usual library hum. You get the standard offerings: books, computer access, a quiet space to sit with a coffee if you've brought one. The building itself is contemporary enough, nothing fancy, but it does its job.

If you're staying at Irongorge Camping or Ted's Farm Caravan and Camping Site nearby, it's worth knowing this exists. Rainy afternoon with restless kids? Pop in for an hour. Adult walkers tackling the Ironbridge Gorge trail system might duck in to pick up a local map or check opening times for other attractions in the area. It won't be the highlight of your week - that's the Iron Bridge itself or Blists Hill Victorian Town - but it's a genuine part of the community rather than a manufactured stop.

Free admission, open weekdays and Saturdays from 10am to 5pm. Sunday off. Allow 30 minutes to an hour unless you're genuinely browsing for reads. Works best combined with the proper historical sites dotted throughout Coalbrookdale - the library gives you the practical stuff while the museums give you the stories.
