St. Peter’s Church, Hever

The church sits just across from Hever Castle, which rather steals its thunder. But St. Peter's is worth a proper look if you're in the area - it's got real medieval bones and enough Tudor history to satisfy anyone tired of just staring at the castle's walls.

Inside, the interior feels appropriately old. There's a decent collection of monuments and brasses scattered about, which means something if you're into that sort of thing. The churchyard itself is genuinely pleasant, with views across the Kentish countryside that remind you why people settled here in the first place. It's the sort of space where you can actually breathe, unlike the busy castle grounds.

This isn't a day-trip destination on its own. But if you're already at Hever - and most people visiting Edenbridge are - ducking into St. Peter's takes twenty minutes and costs nothing. Families with young kids won't stay long, but walkers and history types will appreciate the quietness and the way it connects to the castle's story. There's parking near the church, and you can wander around the churchyard freely.
