Stanistan Hill

The walk up Stanistan Hill rewards you with proper views across the Wharfe Valley - nothing dramatic, but that's rather the point. Families with older kids who actually like walking will find this one manageable - there's nothing technical, just gradient and patience. Younger children might grumble; it's not a scenic loop with convenient benches. Walkers after a decent leg-stretcher between breakfast and lunch will love it. History types should stay elsewhere - there's no castle, no ruins, just a hill and what's been walked there for centuries.

Otley's only three miles away, so it works brilliantly as a morning expedition before hitting one of the caravan parks scattered round the area - Fairmead Farm Glamping is closest if you're after something with a bit more comfort. Clarion Lodge Campsite and Rudding Holiday Park give you proper base options too. Allow two hours return if you're not rushing, and go when the sky's clear - a misty day up there leaves you seeing precisely nothing except your own boots.
