Stock Furlong

Stock Furlong is a proper woodland walk just outside Louth, the sort of place that catches you off guard with how quiet it is. The forest floor here is thick with leaf litter and moss, and if you time it right - early morning or late afternoon - you'll barely see another soul. The paths wind through mixed woodland with decent-sized trees, enough shade to make even a hot day manageable.

It's ideal for walkers who want something straightforward without needing to plan around crowds. An hour or so gets you a solid loop; longer if you fancy exploring the side paths. Family groups with primary-school-age kids will manage it fine, though there's no playground or visitor facilities to speak of, so come prepared. Bring a packed lunch if you want to linger.

The appeal here is simplicity. No signposting drama, no entrance fees as far as I can tell, just a wood that feels genuinely untouched. It pairs well with a broader Lincolnshire Wolds holiday - the National Landscape is less than five miles away and offers more formal walking infrastructure if you want it. Use Stock Furlong for the mornings when you want peace and quiet, then head to the Wolds for something with more to see.

Best in spring when the bluebells are out, or autumn when the canopy colours properly. Winter's fine too if you don't mind damp undergrowth.
