On clear days, you'll spot Windermere gleaming in the distance, with the Pennines rolling away to the east.

Expect to spend around two hours for the round trip from the nearest parking. Early morning visits reward you with the best light and fewer people sharing the summit. The hill makes a decent warm-up walk if you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Parkdean Resorts Fallbarrow or Hill of Oaks, both within easy driving distance.

Is it spectacular? Not really. But for a quick leg-stretch that delivers proper fell walking without the drama, Tarn Hill does the job well enough. Perfect preparation for tackling the Lake District's bigger beasts later in your stay.
