The working farm sits just outside Kendal, and it's the sort of place where you actually get to see how things are done rather than just read about it behind glass. Sheep, cattle, and various other livestock roam about, and depending on when you visit, you might catch feeding times or other farm activities that make it more than just a passive walk-round.

It's genuinely worth stopping by if you've got kids in tow - they'll spend a good couple of hours here without complaint, which is more than you can say for some attractions. Adults without children often find it a bit thin on the ground, though if you're interested in traditional Lake District farming practices, there's enough to satisfy mild curiosity.

The place is close enough to Kendal to slot into a broader day out, and it works well as a break from hiking if you're based at one of the nearby holiday parks. Windermere Camping and Caravanning Club Site is only 2.5 miles away, as are the Parkdean Resorts properties at Fallbarrow and Limefitt - all within easy driving distance for a morning visit before heading elsewhere.

Check the website for current admission prices and opening times before you go, as these aren't always straightforward. You're looking at maybe two to three hours maximum here, depending on how engaged the children get. It's practical rather than spectacular, but it does what it sets out to do without pretence.
