Tee Lake

The water at Tee Lake sits dark and still, ringed by woodland that slopes down from the Shropshire hills. It's a quiet spot, the sort of place where you'll actually hear birds rather than traffic - a proper relief if you've been anywhere near Coalbrookdale's industrial heritage sites.

This is a walker's lake rather than a destination where you park up and spend the afternoon. The main appeal is what surrounds it: the paths through the trees are decent, the water reflects the sky nicely, and there's something genuinely peaceful about it. You won't find facilities or crowds, which is either its greatest strength or its biggest limitation depending on what you're after.

If you're staying at Irongorge Camping nearby, it's absolutely worth incorporating into a morning walk. Combine it with the Ironbridge Gorge museums or other industrial sites in the area for a proper contrast - industrial heritage by day, woodland and water at dusk. Kids will find it pleasant enough for a ramble, though they won't be entertained for hours. There's no playground nonsense or refreshment stand, which keeps it genuine but means you need to bring your own supplies.

Allow an hour to ninety minutes if you're doing a proper loop walk. Go early or late to avoid other visitors entirely. The appeal is subtle rather than dramatic, but that's precisely why locals still bother coming back to it.
