The Chart

The Chart is a proper woodland walk just outside Edenbridge, the sort of place where you can actually hear yourself think. It's ancient forest - beech and oak mostly - with tracks that wind through the canopy and enough shade to make even a hot day feel manageable.

You're not getting dramatic viewpoints or theme park drama here. What you get is decent woodland walking with a real sense of being somewhere old. The paths are well-trodden but never feel crowded, and there's something satisfying about the way the trees just go on and on. If you're the type who finds forests calming rather than tedious, you'll appreciate it. Families with kids who can manage a bit of walking will be fine - the terrain isn't rough, though it can be muddy after rain.

The walk itself takes as long as you fancy, really. An hour covers a solid loop without rushing. There's no café or facilities that I'm aware of, so bring water and don't expect much in the way of infrastructure.

If you're based at Luna Domes just down the road, The Chart makes a natural morning or afternoon stretch. It's the kind of place that rounds out a park holiday nicely - gets you off site, gets your steps in, doesn't require planning or entry fees. Not a destination in itself, but genuinely useful. The Weald's full of woodland, but this one's accessible and, frankly, rather nice.
