About The Goron
Walkers will get the most from it. The terrain is manageable rather than brutal, which means families with kids old enough to manage a steady incline will do fine, but this isn't really a pushchair destination. What you get is proper forest atmosphere - dappled light through the canopy, the occasional glimpse of the wider Powys landscape, and the chance to clear your head without driving hours to reach somewhere busier.
We'd recommend going early in the day if you can, especially weekends. Late afternoon light can be lovely through the trees, but you'll want decent daylight either way. There's no visitor centre or facilities that we could find, so bring water and check the weather - Welsh forests get boggy quickly after rain.
It slots well into a caravan park holiday based around Welshpool. Smithy Park, Rhyd-Y-Groes, and Llwyn Celyn are all within easy striking distance, so you've got a genuinely local walk on your doorstep rather than another 40-minute drive to the next attraction. Not dramatic, but solidly worthwhile.
