The Mere

The Mere sits just inland from Skegness, a proper freshwater lake that's more appealing than you'd expect from somewhere this close to the seaside resort sprawl. It's the sort of place locals know about but tourists often miss - which is precisely why it's worth the short drive from whichever holiday park you're staying at.

There's something genuinely peaceful about it, especially on weekday mornings when the holiday parks aren't disgorging their full complement of visitors onto Skegness seafront. Come mid-afternoon in peak season and you'll share it with families doing the same calculation you are - wanting a change of scenery without going far.

From Haven Skegness or Butlins, you're barely ten minutes away. Bring a picnic, let the kids burn off some energy, and spend an hour or so watching the water. It won't be the highlight of your break, but it's a genuine breathing space - and that's often exactly what you need when you're surrounded by the controlled chaos of a seaside holiday park.
