Trebursye Wood

A proper woodland walk near Launceston, Trebursye Wood is the sort of place you'd stumble upon by accident and be genuinely pleased about it. The forest floor here is thick with moss and leaf litter, the kind that muffles your footsteps and makes everything feel quieter than it should. Winding paths take you through mixed woodland - oak, ash, and plenty of conifers - with the occasional clearing that lets light flood in properly.

It's best suited to walkers rather than pushchair users, given the uneven ground and muddy patches that appear after rain. Kids aged seven and upwards will get something out of it, though don't expect adventure playground thrills - this is about the simple pleasure of being among trees. Allow an hour for a proper wander without rushing. The woodland is free to access and there's no formal entrance fee that I could find, which is a bonus.

If you're staying at Trewithen Farm Glamping or Ekopod Glamping Cornwall - both just a few miles away - Trebursye Wood makes an excellent morning or afternoon break from the holiday park routine. It's not dramatic or showy, but it's genuine quiet countryside. The light filtering through the canopy in late afternoon is particularly good if you've got a camera with you. Visit when it's not been raining heavily, otherwise you'll spend half your time scraping mud off your boots.
