TreeZone Aviemore

The treetop walkway at Aviemore is essentially a series of elevated platforms and bridges that wind through the Scots pines - you're walking among the canopy rather than staring up at it. It's a clever bit of engineering, nothing flashy, just functional metal and wood taking you 40 metres up into the branches.

The appeal is straightforward: you get views across the Cairngorms that you wouldn't see from ground level, and there's something genuinely different about moving through the forest at height. Kids find it properly engaging - the slightly wobbly sections keep them focused, and there's enough novelty to hold their attention for a solid hour or so. Adults tend to appreciate the perspective shift more than anything else.

It's free to walk around, though you'll want to allow at least 90 minutes if you're not rushing. Best visited on a clear day; misty conditions rob you of the views that make the walk worthwhile. Spring and early autumn are your sweet spots - fewer midges, reasonable weather.

If you're staying at Highland Glen Holiday Park or Dalraddy just down the road, it's a natural morning or afternoon slot to fill without needing to drive far. Works well before or after exploring the broader Aviemore area. Worth a go if you're in the region and the weather's on side, though don't expect anything profound - it's a pleasant woodland walk with a twist, not a life-changing experience.
