Truckfest North East

If you've got a soft spot for lorries, Truckfest North East is genuinely worth a look. Held in County Durham near Bishop Auckland, this is where serious truck enthusiasts gather to celebrate everything from vintage heavyweights to customised modern rigs - chrome gleaming, engines rumbling, the whole lot. You'll see meticulously restored classics alongside working vehicles, often with their owners camped beside them telling stories about their machines. The atmosphere's refreshingly unpretentious; these are people who actually love trucks, not just the idea of them.

It's a sprawling event, so allow a good few hours to wander properly. Families tend to enjoy it more than you'd expect - kids get a kick out of the sheer scale of the vehicles, and there's usually a decent amount of food and trade stands to keep everyone occupied. If you're staying at Bradley Burn Caravan Park or one of the other sites nearby, it's close enough to pop along without much fuss. Worth checking dates beforehand though, as this is a seasonal event rather than a permanent fixture.

Not everyone's cup of tea, obviously. If trucks do nothing for you, there's not much reason to make the trip. But if you've got even a passing interest in vehicles or industrial heritage, it's a proper day out. The Bishop Auckland area has enough going on that you won't be stuck if the weather turns or you need a change of pace.
