Walls Hill

The walk up Walls Hill from Lochwinnoch is straightforward enough - you're looking at roughly 45 minutes to the summit if you're moving at a decent pace. It's not dramatically high at 290 metres, but what makes the effort worthwhile is the view south across the Clyde Valley and out towards the Arran hills on a clear day. From the top you can see right across to Renfrewshire's rolling farmland, which is proper lovely in late afternoon light.

This is the kind of walk that suits families with older kids or anyone after a quick leg-stretcher without the full-day commitment. The terrain is rough moorland rather than maintained path, so decent boots are a good shout. Allow an hour and a half round trip if you're not rushing, and aim for a weekday if you want the place to yourself - weekend walkers from Glasgow have cottoned on to it.

The nearest town, Lochwinnoch, is a small working place with a loch and a proper country feel. If you're based at The Pods at Auchenhean just down the road, Walls Hill makes for an excellent morning walk before breakfast. The real advantage is how close it sits to everything - you can knock it out and still have the afternoon free for other bits of Renfrewshire. It's not going to blow your mind, but it's honest work and the views justify the climb.
