About Weathercote Cave
Getting to it requires a scramble down a steep pothole entrance and a bit of careful footwork on wet rock. This isn't a tourist-friendly walk-round with handrails and gift shops. You need to be reasonably fit, wear decent boots, and be comfortable in tight spaces - the chamber opens up but you're aware you're underground. Kids aged eight or nine upwards with outdoor experience would manage it fine; younger ones or nervous types might find it claustrophobic.
Allow 45 minutes to an hour once you're there, longer if you're taking photos. The cave itself is free to visit, though you'll want proper torch work and ideally a local guide if you're not experienced with limestone systems. Winter rainfall makes it significantly more dramatic but also more treacherous.
It sits just north of Carnforth, making it an excellent detour if you're based at any of the nearby glamping spots - Primrose or Ribblesdale Pods are both close enough for a morning trip. Pair it with a proper walk through the surrounding moorland and you've got a solid afternoon. Don't expect a visitor centre or amenities. This is raw stuff.
