White Lady

The White Lady is a granite tor that rises abruptly from the moorland west of Tillyfourie, looking every bit like some ancient sentinel keeping watch over Aberdeenshire. It's not a dramatic peak - more of a stubborn rock outcrop - but the walk to reach it takes you through proper upland terrain where you're genuinely away from things.

Once you're standing at the top, the views across the Grampian foothills are rather good. You get a real sense of the landscape's scale from up here, and on a clear day you can pick out distant mountains. The tor itself isn't technical climbing, just a steep scramble with a bit of loose granite underfoot. Most walkers manage it without fuss, though it's worth picking your steps carefully.

This is one for people who actually enjoy hillwalking rather than those after a quick photo stop. Kids aged ten and up would likely manage it fine if they're used to moorland paths. Older legs might find the gradient a bit much. Allow a couple of hours from Tillyfourie, depending on your pace and how long you linger at the top.

It pairs well with a stay at Haughton Holiday Park just a few miles away - gives you a proper mountain walk without needing to drive across Scotland. The surrounding moorland has other good walks too if the weather's decent. Go midweek if possible; weekends attract a fair few people for such a remote spot.
