Whitehill Stone Circle

Whitehill Stone Circle is one of those Bronze Age monuments that demands you use your imagination. There's no visitor centre, no interpretation boards, no café. Just you, the wind off the Aberdeenshire hills, and stones that have been here for around 4,000 years.

What you're actually looking at are the surviving uprights from a ritual site that once held considerable significance to Neolithic communities. The circle isn't enormous - you can walk around it in a few minutes - but there's something oddly compelling about standing where ancient people stood, even if the full extent of what once stood here is lost.
