White Path Moss

White Path Moss sits above Hope Valley as a proper fell walker's objective rather than a tourist tickbox. It's not the highest around, and there's no dramatic summit shelter or cairn to announce you've arrived, which is partly why it feels refreshingly unglamorous compared to the Peak District hotspots just down the road.

You'll be walking moorland most of the way up - open, windswept, with views across the valley spreading out as you climb. The path itself is what gives the place its name, a pale track worn through the heather over decades of boots. On a clear day you can pick out Chapel-en-le-Frith in the distance and make sense of how the surrounding peaks fit together. The walk typically takes between two and three hours depending on your fitness and which route you pick from Hope Valley.

This is one for walkers who actually want to walk rather than Instagram a view. Families with young kids will find it a bit relentless, and the exposed moorland doesn't offer much shelter if weather closes in quickly - which it can up here. Bring a decent map or know your route beforehand.

If you're camped at North Lees Campsite just a mile away or based at one of the other sites dotted around East Peak Campsite and Wyming Brook Farm, it's a natural half-day out. Pair it with a visit to Hope Valley's villages on a rest day from the tent. No facilities on the fell itself, so carry water and snacks.
