Yordas Pot (Middle Entrance)

The walk down to Yordas Pot's middle entrance is steeper than you'd expect, and that's part of the appeal. This is a proper caving experience without needing full kit or a guide - just decent boots and a torch. The entrance opens into a cathedral-like chamber where water cascades down, creating an otherworldly atmosphere that photographs don't quite capture.

You're looking at around 45 minutes to an hour exploring the accessible sections. The cave itself is genuinely impressive: limestone walls, underground streams, and a sense of genuine remoteness despite being within striking distance of Carnforth. It's the sort of place that appeals to families wanting something beyond the usual park stroll, though younger kids might find the mud and uneven ground a bit much. Walkers and geology enthusiasts will find it absolutely worth the detour.

There's no visitor centre or facilities here - it's raw caving country. Free access as far as I can tell, though conditions depend entirely on weather. After heavy rain the streams swell considerably, which either makes it more dramatic or impassable, depending on your appetite for risk.

If you're camped at Philpin Farm or Primrose Glamping Pods nearby, this makes a solid half-day outing. Combine it with walks across the surrounding moorland and you've got a proper outdoors day. Don't expect creature comforts or crowds - that's precisely why it works.
