Helston sits in proper Cornish countryside, all rolling hills and stone hedgerows, with the dramatic Lizard Peninsula stretching south towards some of Britain's most spectacular coastline.

The town itself has a lived-in feel that many Cornwall destinations have lost to tourism. Market day brings genuine bustle, and the local pubs serve proper Cornish pasties alongside decent pints. But Helston's real draw lies in what surrounds it - you're perfectly positioned for the wild beauty of the Lizard.

Twenty minutes south takes you to Lizard Point, the southernmost tip of mainland Britain. The National Trust site here offers cracking clifftop walks, and the old Lizard Wireless Station tells the story of Marconi's pioneering radio experiments. Bass Point provides some of the finest coastal views in Cornwall, while Polpeor Cove is a proper hidden spot for those willing to scramble down.

Getting here means the A394 from Penzance or Falmouth - both decent-sized towns with rail links if you're coming by train. The surrounding countryside is classic Cornwall: narrow lanes, ancient field patterns, and stone villages that feel untouched by the 21st century.

Staying at one of the nearby parks makes perfect sense. You're close enough to Helston for provisions and a good meal, but far enough out to enjoy the peace of rural Cornwall. Plus you're ideally placed for exploring both the dramatic Lizard coast and the gentler countryside inland.
