Beyond the city limits, this corner of Herefordshire opens into proper countryside. The Black Mountains rise to the west, with peaks like Twyn y Gaer and Deri Allt offering cracking walks for those who fancy a bit of a trek. Ancient woodlands dot the landscape - Holly Wood and Wilderness Wood provide gentle rambles, while Twyn y gaer Hill Fort rewards the climb with views across the Welsh borders.

Getting here couldn't be easier. The train from Birmingham takes just over an hour, and the A49 brings drivers straight into town. Ross-on-Wye sits twenty minutes south if you're after a riverside market town feel instead.

Staying at one of the nearby parks makes perfect sense. You're close enough to nip into Hereford for dinner or cathedral visits, yet far enough out to wake up to proper countryside quiet. The Wye Valley's on your doorstep, Hay-on-Wye's literary festival scene is a short drive north, and those Welsh hills beckon when you need to stretch your legs properly.
