Llanidloes

Ancient timber-framed buildings line the market square here, where Wales meets England in more ways than one. Llanidloes sits right in the heart of Mid Wales, surrounded by rolling hills that seem to stretch endlessly in every direction. Walking is the main draw around these parts. Down by the river, Fishermans Walk lives up to its name. It's a gentle stroll that follows the water, perfect after a morning exploring Cenarth Wood or the Cefn Cenarth Reserve. Bird Cottage nature reserve draws wildlife enthusiasts, though it's worth noting this isn't the most touristy part of Wales - which is precisely its charm.

Getting here requires a bit of planning. The nearest major town is Newtown, about 20 minutes by car, with Welshpool and Shrewsbury both within an hour's drive. The A470 runs nearby, making it accessible from both north and south Wales.

Staying at one of the local holiday parks makes perfect sense for exploring this corner of Mid Wales.
