All Saints' Church Curbar (Church Of England)

The churchyard sits on high ground above the village of Curbar, just a few miles south of Bakewell, and it's worth the short detour if you're walking the Peak District hills. All Saints' is a proper working parish church - nothing fancy, but that's rather the point. Inside you'll find the sort of medieval stonework and Victorian additions that tell the story of rural Derbyshire without any fuss or interpretation boards.

It's the walk that makes this worthwhile, to be honest. The church commands views across the valley, and there's decent rambling country all around. Walkers doing the circular routes through the Derbyshire peaks will naturally pass through Curbar, and calling in takes maybe twenty minutes. Families with young children might find it a bit quiet and uneventful - there's no gift shop or cafe attached - but if you're the sort who enjoys old stone and local history, you'll appreciate the straightforward authenticity of the place.

There's no charge to look around, and opening times appear to be during daylight hours when the church is in use. If you're based at Chatsworth Park Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite just down the road, or any of the quieter sites like Dale Farm or Lathkill Wild further out, Curbar makes an easy afternoon stop. Don't expect much ceremony or grandeur - just a working church in its proper landscape. That's the appeal.
