About Beinn Damhain
This is one for walkers who want a decent day out without the full technical climbing gear. Families with older kids will manage it fine - the ascent is relentless rather than technical, and there's real satisfaction at the top. On a clear day you get Ben Lomond and the length of Loch Lomond stretching south, which honestly beats a lot of the more famous peaks around here.
There's nothing to book or pay - it's just a hill. Start early though, especially in summer. The weather can turn quickly, and the descent back to Arrochar gets grim if visibility drops. Allow a full morning or early afternoon for it.
If you're camping at Beinglas, which is barely 2.6 miles away, this works perfectly as a day walk before collapsing at your campsite. Loch Lomond Holiday Park is a bit further but still reasonable as a base. The walk fits neatly into a wider Trossachs trip - you can combine it with quieter lochs or head over to Ben Arthur if you fancy something steeper. It's not the Instagram mountain, but that's precisely why it's worth doing.
