Bowbridge Alpacas Scotland

The alpacas here are genuinely brilliant - proper gentle creatures that'll eat from your hand if you're patient enough. Bowbridge sits just outside Leven in Fife, and it's one of those places that sounds daft until you actually show up and realise how much fun it is. You'll be walking around the fields with these long-necked, woolly animals who are far more interested in your snacks than your phone. Kids absolutely love it. Teenagers tolerate it without rolling their eyes. Adults find themselves unexpectedly charmed.

What you're doing here is essentially an encounter experience - you're not just gawping from a distance. Depending on how busy they are, you might get to feed them, take photos that actually feel personal rather than just another shot of an animal. The alpacas have personalities. Some are bold, some are shy, and yes, they occasionally spit, but it's rarer than the warnings suggest.

It works brilliantly as a break from the caravan parks scattered around the area - Forth House, Monturpie, and Wigwam Holidays are all within spitting distance (pun intended). None of these parks are going to blow your mind, but you're in decent enough countryside here. Allow two hours, maybe more if you've got little ones who want to spend forever with one particular alpaca. Go mid-morning before school groups arrive, or late afternoon when the light's better anyway.

Worth the detour? Yeah, if you've got kids under twelve it absolutely is. It's gentle, oddly therapeutic, and genuinely different from the usual seaside caravan fare.
