Carnedd Lleithr

The walk up Carnedd Lleithr rewards you with proper views across Pembrokeshire's inland valleys - nothing dramatic, but solid hill-country landscape that justifies the climb from near Haverfordwest. It's a modest peak by most standards, yet the moorland approach and clear sightlines make it worth the leg work if you're based at one of the nearby farms or campsites.

You're looking at roughly an hour and a half up, depending on fitness and exactly where you start. The terrain is typical Welsh moorland - boggy in places, firm in others - and the path is well enough trodden that you won't get lost, though a map helps. On a clear day the views stretch towards the Preseli Hills to the east, and you can pick out the patchwork of fields rolling away below. In mist it's less impressive, admittedly.

Walkers with reasonable fitness will find this straightforward enough, though families with small children might struggle with the wet ground and lack of defined paths in places. There's no visitor facility or café at the top - it's just you, the wind, and the landscape. That's rather the point.

Carnedd Lleithr fits nicely into a week based at Lleithyr Farm Holiday Park or Pencarnan Farm, both within striking distance. Combine it with walking the quieter bits of Pembrokeshire's coast, or use it as a leg-stretch between seaside days. Free to access, of course - you're just climbing a hill. Go early or late in the day if you want solitude; weekends can see a fair few people up there in summer.
