You're scrambling up to a defensive settlement that's roughly 2,000 years old - think earthen ramparts, ditches, the skeletal remains of what once mattered to people long gone. The views across the island justify the effort alone. It's free, obviously, because there's nothing to actually see in the conventional sense - just grass, lumps, and the wind.

Walkers will get the most from this. Families with young children might find it a bit abstract; there are no signs, no reconstructions, nothing to grab hold of unless you've got a decent grasp of Iron Age settlement patterns. History types, though - the ones who can read a landscape - will find it absorbing. The site itself takes maybe twenty minutes to properly explore once you're up there, so factor in a good half-hour round trip from the car park.

If you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks - Llanfair Hall is barely over a mile away - it makes sense as a morning walk before heading into Llanfairpwllgwyngyll proper. Don't expect facilities or interpretation. Bring decent footwear and decent weather if you can. The ramparts are genuine enough, but they're subtle. You've got to want to be here.
