Cat Crags

The walk up to Cat Crags takes about twenty minutes from the Skipton side, and it's worth every step. You're rewarded with a proper viewpoint - limestone outcrops that rise sharply from the moorland, offering views across Wharfedale and beyond. The rocks themselves are the main draw here; they're craggy and dramatic without being so serious that you need climbing gear. Families with reasonably fit kids will manage it fine. Walkers will appreciate how it slots into a longer moorland circuit, and if you're after photo opportunities, the light's best in early morning or late afternoon when the stone glows.

The terrain's straightforward enough - you're on paths the whole way, nothing too technical - though the final approach does get a bit steeper. Depending on how much time you spend at the top taking in the view or scrambling about on the rocks, you're looking at anything from an hour to two hours round trip. There's no facilities at the crags themselves, so bring water.

It's the sort of place you'll want to visit on a clear day - mist rolls in quickly up here and you'll lose the view entirely.
