Cherry Holt

The woodland around Cherry Holt feels properly isolated once you're a few minutes in from Market Rasen - which is exactly the point. This is ancient forest floor stuff: tall trees, decent paths, the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think instead of dodging pushchairs on a country lane.

What you're getting is a straightforward woodland walk rather than a visitor centre or tea room setup. The trees do the talking here. It's not spectacular in a postcard way, but if you want to feel like you've stepped out of East Midlands proper, it works. The paths are manageable for families with older kids, though younger ones might find it a bit samey after half an hour.

Allow an hour or two depending on how many side routes you fancy. There's no obvious entry fee or visitor infrastructure that I could pin down, so it reads as a local walking spot rather than a ticketed attraction. Best in autumn when the light comes through properly, though spring's decent too.

For a park holiday in the area, it slots in nicely alongside the Lincolnshire Wolds National Landscape four miles south - you could combine them in a morning. Into the Wild Glamping is close by if you're after that woodland-adjacent overnight experience. Cherry Holt itself is more about adding some actual forest to a weekend that might otherwise be all field walks and market towns.
