Coastal View from Moelfre

The walk up to Moelfre rewards you with one of the finest coastal panoramas in Gwynedd - and it's genuinely worth the climb. From the viewpoint, you're looking out across Cardigan Bay with the Snowdonia peaks rising behind you, a proper combination that doesn't happen often. The path is straightforward enough, though it gets steep near the top, and allow 30-45 minutes depending on your pace.

This is walker territory first and foremost. Families with young children might find the final push tiresome, but older kids will manage it fine and they'll actually remember the view once they reach the summit. History buffs won't find much to hold them - it's about the landscape here, not the stories.

You can get there year-round and there's no admission fee, which is refreshing. Wind can be fierce on exposed days, so check conditions before you go. Summer mornings tend to be clearest before the haze rolls in.

It sits well within a caravan holiday based around Llanbedr and Shell Island. If you're staying at Lyons Sunnysands or Woodlands, you're looking at a short drive, and the walk complements a seaside park break nicely - gives you something to do beyond the beach. Rhaeadr Nantcol Waterfalls is barely a mile away, so you could combine both in a morning without stretching yourself. The view alone justifies the short detour, but don't expect crowds or facilities at the top.
